Graduation: The Little Cottage Industry

WOW! I just graduated after too long at UTS. Although I have to say that while it may be trendy and cool to "bag" how terrible and artificial and plain silly it is to have a ceremony like that...I WAS REALLY REALLY EXCITED! I was really happy and it was really cool to have a feeling of pride. Sorry about not get first class honours and all but gosh, there's nothing like getting those pieces of paper! I wasn't prepared for how good that would feel. Also how cool it really is to swan around in academic dress.

Another confession? I was sucked in by the whole little industry that surrounds this time. The "professional" photos, the "graduation" bear that is wearing the same colours as me! The laser engraved graduation plaque and my "instant" life-saving framing (of my degree certificate)! All this stuff adds up my friends...but I thought every penny was worth it!

My friend Lakshmi really scared me when she said that we would never get another degree certificate again if we lost or destroyed this one. Any replacement would not have the University Seal and would have that this is a COPY emblazoned across it. I guess it's not really fair that the whole time at uni boils down to this certificate but for some degrees it does. It really brings up a fundamental problem with how they treat degrees. I mean the point is we're supposed to have learnt some darn thing or other and the actual degree cert is just to "prove" it but shouldn't we be able to prove it cos we just KNOW OUR SH*T? It's too bad if you don't know your sh*t ...then you better keep that certificate in mint condition mate!

Looking back at the pictures of the day I really saw how genuinely HAPPY I was which is so cool.

And with my great Oscar-style ending to every speech...
Thank you to my family, especially my parents, my friends, especially the ones who kept me sane at uni and out of it too...and my boyfriend who really was very supportive and who yes...helped me to get the best marks I've ever gotten right at the end of my degree!

Without all of you I don't think I could have gotten through it all and I don't think I can honestly look back at uni with any happiness and remember so many terrible times that were made good, and so many good times made even better!

Kisses and hugs to you ALL!

How to Save an Incredibly Bad Day?

Just had an absolutely terrible day yesterday at uni. Pretty much had to do an assignment twice because of poor saving techniques on another laptop (not my Mackie's fault at least! NB - Mackie is my little Apple Powerbook who's a little sick lately so he's going in for a service soon). So a day where I was only supposed to be at uni for a few hours, (maybe 3?) turned into a nightmare of a whole day affair for about 7 hours! BLARG!

Only saving grace of yesterday was that I went and watched the most terrible movie of all time with my boyfriend. "Snakes on a Plane" was SOOOO bad it was GOOD!

Every cliche was there and ever stereotypical character. Loved it! It wouldn't be one of the top 5 "desert island" movies but it does rate as a cool movie to be able to pick out every plot device. It even managed to shock me a few times with some skillful suspense.

Today is back at uni again which is Bah Humbug! But at least it isn't that bad. Got a mid-semester exam next week, which I'm really not looking forward to, but I won't worry about it today...I'll worry about it another day!

In other news I'm going to buy Presidents of the USA tickets. They're playing at the former Metro in Sydney but now its the "Century" theatre or what not...obviously a cheap ploy to confuse and confuddle me.

Other ponderences (I don't know if that's a word but I don't care) of late is whatever happened to people I used to know in Primary School/High School? It doesn't keep me up at nights or anything but it would be a blast to see how some people turned out. Obviously I'm terribly embarrassed to reveal how little I've achieved but it would be extremely cool if I could track them down somehow. Moving suburbs completely after Primary School didn't help but I'll keep my sleuthing low key.

You never know...Sydney only has a population of about 3 million, and NSW has a population of about 6 million.
Can't be that hard to find just a couple of people right?
Well, it's better odds than Keno that's for sure!!

Lunch time

I work in a very small office. It's actually quite a nice friendly environment. Lunch time rolls around and I'm way too lazy usually to go out and do anything. Even my apettite suffers which is just weird cos usually food is a major priority in my life.

BAD NEWS!

Steve Irwin, who admittedly I'm not a mad fan of but who entertains me nonetheless, has just been confirmed as dead. Heard it on the radio. I think he died really normally too, not sticking his finger up a croc's butt or anything. Just from a fishing accident. Although Steve Irwin's idea of fishing could be something really crazy like harpooning things...I spose we'll all find out tonight on the news.

I have to be really careful today...I've worn my deadly pants. This means that I have to walk like I just got off a horse and look like I haven't worn heels before. The pants keep getting caught in the heel of my shoe cos the bottom of the pants have a cuff. I've already taken some major spills near Central station which other than just plain embarrassing, were also rather painful!! Today the fall count is already at 2 because I took a fall to the filing cabinet and also stumbled as I momentarily lost concentration on my way out of my office building.

The Mantra for the day: Left foot, right foot, left foot, right foot....rinse and repeat!

Peer Pressure is a TERRIBLE THING

Everyone's doing it so because I have to be cool like everyone else, I'm trying blogging. I guess this is supposedly the "healthy" way to express yourself but...the jury's still out on that. Too much verbage CAN'T be good for the health either!

At least this will give me something to look forward to at work.

REMEMBER: Procrastination is your friend!
